DStv installation

DStv installation, done once and done properly

A DStv installation is only as good as the dish alignment behind it. We mount securely, align precisely with a signal meter, cable neatly and hand over a system that survives the first storm.

Aligned with a meter Often same-day Neat cabling

Most bad DStv installs fail on the same two things

The first is alignment. A satellite dish has to point at a specific object 36 000 kilometres above the equator, and the tolerance is small. Aligned by eye it will work — on a clear day, in good weather. Aligned properly with a signal meter, optimised for both signal strength and signal quality, it will keep working through a Highveld thunderstorm.

The second is the cabling and weatherproofing. The connector at the LNB sits outdoors permanently, in sun and rain, for years. If it is not weatherproofed properly, water gets in, the copper corrodes, and in eighteen months you have a signal fault that nobody can explain.

We do both properly, because doing them badly is how a cheap installation becomes an expensive one. And we do the rest — the mounting, the routing, the decoder setup and the activation — so that you end up with a working television rather than a box of equipment.

The detail

What a proper DStv installation includes

Rather more than bolting a dish to a wall.

Site survey and dish positioning

The dish needs a clear line of sight to the satellite. Trees grow, neighbours build, and a position that worked five years ago may not work now. We check before we mount.

Secure mounting

Into the correct substrate, with the correct fixings, on a bracket that will not move in wind. A dish that shifts by two degrees is a dish that stops working.

Precise alignment with a signal meter

Signal strength and signal quality are two different readings and both need to be right. We optimise for both, which is what gives you resilience in bad weather.

Quality LNB and cabling

The LNB is the component that fails most on a DStv installation. Fitting a good one, and weatherproofing its connector properly, is the difference between five years of service and eighteen months.

Neat, weatherproofed cable routing

Clipped, protected from UV, sealed where it enters the building, and routed so that it does not become a rainwater channel into your wall.

Decoder setup, activation and handover

The decoder connected, the smartcard paired, the channels scanned, the remote paired and the system demonstrated to you before we leave.

What you get

What you get

A working system, not a pile of equipment.

01

A dish that survives storms

Because it was aligned on quality, not just strength.

02

Weatherproofed connections

The single most common cause of failure, prevented.

03

Cabling you are not embarrassed by

Clipped, routed and hidden where possible.

04

A decoder that is actually working

Activated, scanned, paired and demonstrated.

05

Extra View and multi-room if you want it

Planned properly from the start, not retro-fitted.

06

One visit for TV and DStv

Mount the television and install the DStv together.

Included

FAQ

DStv installation — your questions answered

The things people actually ask us on the phone, answered straight.

Not sure what is wrong?

WhatsApp us the make, the screen size and a short video of what the TV is doing. We can usually narrow the fault down before a technician is even dispatched.

How long does a DStv installation take?

A straightforward single-decoder installation typically takes two to three hours, including the survey, mounting, alignment, cabling and setup. Extra View installations and multi-room setups take longer because there is more cable to run and more to configure.

Do you supply the dish and decoder?

We can supply and install the dish, bracket, LNB and cabling. Decoders and subscriptions are handled through MultiChoice, and we will set up and activate whatever decoder you have or acquire.

Can you install DStv in a complex or estate?

Yes. Many complexes have rules about where dishes may be mounted, and some have a communal dish with a distribution system. We work within whatever the body corporate requires, and we will tell you upfront if there is a restriction that affects the job.

Why does my DStv break up when it rains?

Rain fade — heavy rain absorbing the satellite signal. Every installation suffers it to some degree, but a properly aligned dish with a healthy LNB rides out far more of it than a marginal one. If yours breaks up in light rain, the alignment or the LNB needs attention.

Can you install the TV and the DStv at the same time?

Yes, and it is much the most sensible approach. One visit, one callout, and the cabling for both gets planned and concealed together rather than one being retro-fitted around the other.

Do you do same-day DStv installations?

Often, where our schedule allows and you are in an area we are working in. Phone early in the day for the best chance, and we will give you an honest answer rather than an optimistic one.
