About us

The television repair company that tells you not to bother

Most of what we do is not glamorous. It is a power supply board that surged when the lights came back on, a set of LED backlight strips that have finally given up after eight years of heat, a capacitor the size of your fingernail that dried out and took a R12 000 television down with it.

Those are cheap repairs on expensive equipment, and they are the reason we exist. The panel — the part that actually costs money — almost never fails. The boards around it do, and boards can be repaired.

We also tell people, regularly, that their television is not worth fixing. It costs us the job every time we say it. We say it anyway, because the alternative is taking money from someone to postpone a decision they were going to have to make regardless.

01 — NO POWER

TV won’t turn on

Dead, clicking, or stuck on a red standby light. In South Africa this is nearly always the power supply board, damaged by the surge when load-shedding ends. It is the most common fault we see — and one of the most repairable.

The panel is untouched. Only the board failed.

02 — NO PICTURE

Sound, but a black screen

The classic backlight failure. Shine a torch at an angle across the screen — if you can faintly see a picture, the panel is alive and well and only the LED strips behind it have gone. Replacing them restores the set completely.

Do the torch test before you shop for a new TV.

03 — NO SOUND

Silent, crackling or distorted

Roughly half of all ‘no sound’ calls turn out to be an output setting, a soundbar handshake or an HDMI-ARC problem. We check those free fixes before we quote you for anything at all.

Often free to fix. We check that first.

04 — SMART TV

Apps, Wi-Fi and boot loops

A smart TV is a computer with a screen attached, and it fails like one: corrupted firmware, exhausted storage, expired certificates. Software faults should never cost you hardware money, and we prove which you have before quoting.

Firmware recovery costs nothing in parts.

05 — INPUTS

Dead HDMI ports

HDMI ports sit directly on the mainboard, which makes them the first casualty of a power surge. In most cases the individual port can be repaired or replaced without touching the rest of the board.

Port-level repair, not a whole new mainboard.

06 — DSTV

Installation, signal and decoders

Dish installation and precise alignment, LNB replacement, decoder setup, Extra View, relocations and signal fault finding. For dedicated satellite work, we also recommend a trusted partner for professional DSTV Installations and reliable DSTV Repairs. And if you need the television mounted too, we will do both in one visit.

The LNB is the #1 DStv failure point.

The upside

Why repairing beats replacing

01

The expensive part almost never fails

The panel is most of what you paid for, and it is remarkably durable. It is the boards around it — power supply, mainboard, T-CON — that give up. And boards can be repaired.

02

A fraction of the replacement cost

A power supply repair or a set of backlight strips costs a small share of what a comparable new television would. The arithmetic is rarely close.

03

You keep the picture you chose

A good five-year-old panel routinely outperforms a cheap new one at the same price. Replacing it is often a downgrade you paid for.

04

One visit, not three

We carry the components that fail most often, which is why most of our repairs are finished on the day we arrive.

05

A price before we touch it

Diagnosis first, then a fixed written quote. You approve it, or you do not. There is no charge for saying no.

06

Less landfill

A working television scrapped because of a R60 capacitor is a genuine shame. We would rather keep it in your lounge.

Why choose us

Why people call us back

Anyone can call themselves reliable. Here is what we actually do — including the part that costs us money.

01We come to the television

Moving a large flat-screen is the single most common way one gets genuinely broken — laid flat on a back seat, wedged in a boot, leaned against a wall. So we do not ask you to. The technician, the meter and the parts come to your lounge.

02We diagnose instead of guessing

Swapping boards until something works is how people end up paying three times for one fault. We measure the power rails, test the backlight under load and isolate the mainboard before we recommend spending a cent.

03Software faults never cost hardware money

Boot loops, frozen menus and apps that will not load are usually firmware or network problems. We try the free fixes first, and we tell you when that is all it was.

04A fixed price, agreed before we start

You get the number before any work begins. Nothing gets added afterwards, and there is no charge for deciding not to proceed.

05We tell people not to bother

If your television needs a repair that costs most of what a replacement would, we will say so plainly — and we will not take the job. It is the least profitable sentence we say, and it is the reason our customers phone us again.

How much does a TV repair cost in South Africa?

It depends on what has failed. The two most common faults — a power supply board and a failed LED backlight — are among the more affordable repairs there are, and both cost a small fraction of replacing the television. We diagnose first, then give you a fixed price before any work begins. Our TV repair cost guide sets out realistic ranges for each fault.

My TV has sound but no picture. Is it finished?

Almost certainly not. That is the classic symptom of a failed LED backlight, and the panel — the expensive part — is usually in perfect health. Shine a bright torch at a sharp angle across the screen: if you can faintly make out a picture, the panel is alive and only the backlight needs replacing.

Do you repair broken or cracked TV screens?

No. We do not repair cracked, shattered or physically damaged screens because a replacement panel almost always costs more than buying a new television of the same size. We also do not purchase broken televisions. Every other fault, though — no power, no picture, no sound, dead HDMI ports, Wi-Fi and app problems — is exactly what we do.

Do you come to my house, or must I bring the TV in?

We come to you. Moving a large flat-screen television is the single most common way they get genuinely damaged, so we bring the workshop to the television instead. Most faults are diagnosed and repaired on site, in your home, on the first visit.

My TV died after load-shedding. Can it be fixed?

Yes, in the great majority of cases. The damage is not caused by the outage but by the surge when the power returns, and it lands on the power supply board first. It is the most common television fault in Gauteng and it is also one of the most repairable.

Which TV brands do you repair?

Every major brand: Samsung, LG, Sony, Hisense, TCL, Skyworth, Sinotec, Panasonic, Philips, Toshiba and Vizio, among others. Give us the make and model when you book and we can often load the right part before the technician leaves.

Do you install DStv as well?

Yes. Dish installation and alignment, LNB replacement, decoder setup, Extra View, relocations and signal fault finding — across the same areas we repair televisions. If you need the TV mounted and the DStv installed, we can do both in one visit.

How quickly can you get to me?

Often the same day, particularly if you phone in the morning, you are in one of our core areas, and the fault is a common one we carry parts for. We will always give you an honest answer about timing rather than promising a slot we cannot keep.
