DStv relocations
A dish taken down and put back up is a new installation, not a reconnection. It needs a fresh line-of-sight survey, a fresh alignment and fresh weatherproofing — which is exactly where relocations go wrong.
Here is the mistake people make when they move. They take the dish off the old wall, bolt it to the new one, plug everything in, and expect it to work — because it worked before. And it will not, because the alignment was specific to the old position and the old position no longer exists.
Every relocation is effectively a fresh installation. The new property has a different line of sight, different obstructions, a different substrate and a different orientation. The dish has to be surveyed, mounted, aligned and weatherproofed all over again.
The weatherproofing point is worth emphasising. Old connectors, disturbed after years outdoors, rarely reseal properly. Reusing them is how a relocated installation develops a mysterious signal fault six months later. We replace them.
The detail
At both ends of the move.
Dish, bracket, LNB and cabling removed without damaging the wall or the equipment. Holes made good where we can.
Because the new place has different trees, different neighbours and a different orientation. This comes before anything is drilled.
The new wall may be a different material entirely. Different substrate, different fixings.
Elevation, azimuth and skew, all set again with a meter. The old settings are meaningless at a new address.
Old connectors disturbed after years outdoors do not reseal reliably. Replacing them is cheap insurance.
Reconnected, rescanned, re-paired and, where the address has changed, reactivated with MultiChoice.

FAQ
The things people actually ask us on the phone, answered straight.
WhatsApp us the make, the screen size and a short video of what the TV is doing. We can usually narrow the fault down before a technician is even dispatched.
WhatsApp 063 866 0971You can take it down easily enough. Putting it back up is the difficulty — the alignment at the new address bears no relation to the old one, and without a signal meter you will be optimising for a picture rather than for signal quality. That leaves you with no margin, and the first rain will take it away.
Usually not, provided the existing dish is in good condition and the correct size for your new region. The LNB and the connectors are more likely to need replacing than the dish itself — particularly the connectors, which rarely reseal well after being disturbed.
Yes, and it is much the most sensible way to do it. One visit, one callout, and the cabling for both gets planned together at the new address rather than one being retro-fitted around the other.
Yes — MultiChoice needs your correct address on the account. We will make sure the decoder is properly reactivated and scanning correctly at the new address as part of the job.
Then we will tell you before we drill anything, and we will look at the alternatives — a different wall, a pole mount, or in difficult cases a roof position. It is very rare that there is no viable position at all, but it is much better to establish that at the survey than afterwards.
Allow two to three hours at the new property for a straightforward single-decoder installation, plus the removal at the old one. Extra View setups take longer because there is more cabling to run.
