Televisions fail in brand-shaped patterns
After enough years of this, you stop being surprised. A Samsung that will not start is a power supply board. A TCL with sound and no picture is the backlight. A Hisense that has died is almost certainly a capacitor. An LG stuck on the logo is corrupted webOS firmware. A Sony that will not start is telling you exactly what is wrong, if you count the flashes on its standby light.
None of this means one brand is bad and another is good. It means each manufacturer economises in different places, and those places fail first. Knowing where to look before we arrive is what turns a two-visit repair into a one-visit repair.

Every major brand sold in South Africa, and most of the minor ones. If your make is not listed, phone anyway — the underlying technology is largely shared across manufacturers, and the faults are similar even when the badge is unfamiliar.
Does the brand affect whether a TV is worth repairing?
Somewhat, mainly through parts availability. Samsung, LG, Hisense and TCL spares are readily obtainable in South Africa. Skyworth, Toshiba and Vizio boards can be considerably harder to source, which is exactly why we repair boards at component level rather than only replacing them.
Which TV brand is most reliable?
An honest answer: reliability tracks price more than badge. Premium sets from any manufacturer use better power supply components and cool their backlights more generously, and they last longer as a result. Budget sets from every brand economise in the same places, and they fail in the same places.
Do you need the model number?
It helps enormously. The model number is on a sticker on the back of the television. With it, we can identify the likely fault, check parts availability and often load the correct component before the technician leaves — which is frequently the difference between a one-visit repair and a two-visit one.
Do you repair cracked screens on any brand?
No, on any brand. We do not repair cracked, shattered or physically damaged screens, and we do not buy broken televisions. A replacement panel costs more than a new set of the same size, regardless of who made it.
